We’re looking for a full-time Marketing Communications Specialist to join our team in our Berlin office on a permanent basis. As part of our E-Commerce Team, you will be responsible for spreading the word about FontShop and FontFont through creative campaigns and effective marketing.
You will be responsible for:
- Creating, planning and organizing campaigns to market FontShop and FontFont products
- Content planning and copy writing including articles, newsletters, direct mailings
- Running social media channels (we have many)
- Organizing, negotiating and seeking out relevant sponsorship opportunities
- Creating other opportunities (PR etc.) to raise the profile of both brands
- Establishing and maintaining good working relationships with typography foundries and designers
- Support the work of the Marketing Manager and undertake any tasks he requires
- Work closely with Graphic Designers to create collateral and marketing materials
- Other ad-hoc administrative tasks
What we’re looking for:
- A background in marketing or communications with at least 2–5 years experience
- Creativity and a flair for writing
- An eye for detail and a knack for spotting a typo (especially an incorrect apostrophe ;)
- Great organization and the ability to handle multiple projects
- Fluency in English, German is a plus
- A knowledge of Google Analytics and Adwords is a plus but not a must

It looks like summer has finally upped and left us for another year. *sobs*
But to soften the blow the lovely people at Gallery Print will be seeing the sunny season out with a bang tonight at their End of Summer party!
Kicking off tonight at Lützowstraße 107, 10785 Berlin from 7pm, there will be food, drinks and dancing to a cool selection of DJs as they spin vinyls on top of the printers!
We will also be there with our own FontShop stand where we will be giving out free copies of the FontFont calendar we designed on behalf of Gallery Print.

Today is a groundbreaking day in our history, in fact the most important one since Erik Spiekermann and Neville Brody have started the FontFont library back in 1990. The US typeface company Monotype announced that they have acquired FontShop and us, the FontFont library.permalink
We have a great bit of news for all of our British and Australian customers!
Here at FontFont.com we are pleased to announce that we’ve improved our currency system, making it easier to purchase and pay for FontFonts. This means that as of now our Brit and Aussie customers are able to buy our fonts in either Sterling (GBP) or OZ dollars (AUD).
In anticipation of the new year ahead we took a quick look back at the year that was.
Our 2013 went a little something like this:
- Five new staff members came onboard, reaching a combined total of 1271 years in life (and font) experience.
- 50% of us favored the humble bicycle as the preferred method of transport, and of the remaining few, 26% opted for public transport with the rest split evenly between foot and car.
- We clocked up 50000+ work air-miles, traveling across three continents, exploring 12 cities. We shared, watched, listened and learnt a thousand things or two at 12 different conferences and our fonts now support up to 170 languages.
- We created three microsites and five print specimens with altogether 10 different pantone colours in total.
- 580 tweets were typed and we hit the 26846 followers mark.
- Four new designers joined the family, seven new typeface designs enriched our library, bringing our tally to 171 designers, 399 families and 2588 fonts in total.
To all our designers and friends, thank you for your creativity, support and mutual love for type.
2013 was a great year.

In celebration of this fantastic pairing we have created a poster demonstrating the fonts in action!

A few years ago, we in collaboration with Tim Ahrens and FontShop created FontFonter as the first free tool to allow anyone to try and preview webfonts on any website.
With the completely new and more flexible WebFonter, you can now try and test Web FontFonts together with the 15,000+ webfonts available from FontShop.com in any existing site. You can replace headline or body text, specific fonts, or, using custom CSS selectors, anything you want with a typeface of your choosing.
WebFonter can be used during the design and development process – a critical time for font choice. The target website does not need to be publicly accessible in order to test-drive webfonts. This hugely important feature marries well with the current web design trend towards designing directly in the browser.
Available for free as a Chrome extension, browser bookmarklet or by entering a URL directly at webfonter.fontshop.com, this new tool will succeed FontFonter to make the web design process even better and as seamless as possible.permalink

Since the launch of Web FontFonts, we’ve wanted to keep things simple and make web typefaces that were easy to access, easy to use and easy to license (hence the pay-once self-hosting scheme). We continually work to ensure that our Web FontFonts are the fittest of the fit and are delighted to announce that they are now even more compatible.
According to the most recent statistics from October 2012*, Web FontFonts are supported by about 98 percent of all desktop web browsers in use online. So, if you embed Web FontFonts on your site, virtually every visitor will be able to see them. As if that wasn’t enough, there is hardly any difference in compatibility between Web FontFont self-hosting and getting your fonts from webfont services, as most services support about 98 percent of all desktop browsers as well!
Our analysis of browser share is based on the version numbers that support Web FontFonts as well as webfont services. The good news is that we expect this percentage to further increase up to 100% as users upgrade to newer browser versions.
*Source: w3schools.com. Only 2.1 % of browsers are not Web FontFont friendly, but we won’t hold that against them.permalink
We were absolutely over the moon to hear that fontfont.com has won the German Design Award.
The German Design Award is an annual honour bestowed by the German Design Council to companies and organisations who demonstrate excellence in design. The Council was set up in 1953 to support and champion design in Germany. Through various competitions, exhibitions and conferences, their mission is to demonstrate the extra value and benefit of design to business. They have very good taste in fonts too, FF Meta is their face of choice.
Always in the pursuit of maximum simplicity, we wanted to create a site that was easy to use, clean and fast. We worked very closely with edenspiekermann_ throughout the development process to breathe new life into our online shop and were absolutely delighted with the results. Accolades such as this and the iF Communation Design Award award that we won back in February just make us want to keep improving things further!permalink
