Over the course of four days, there will be a series of nine lectures and five workshops, all focused on the theme Stroke, which was inspired by Gerrit Noordzij’s book The Stroke. The speakers line-up includes the likes of Akira Kobayashi, Robert Bringhurst, Yves Peters, Erik van Blokland and Luc(as) de Groot.

Set up by the Typographical Society Munich (Typographische Gesellschaft München), Webfontday is committed to providing hands-on advice, practical tips and inspiration through fabulous examples. The theme this year is ‘Type goes interface’ and the third Webfontday will take place on Saturday 10 November in Munich.
With the likes of Indra Kupferschmid, David Berlow, and Tim Ahrens the day is jam-packed with talks from type experts and creatives from across the global. Typography expert and author of FontFeed, Yves Peters, will also be giving a talk on ‘Better Web Typography’.

The theme for 2012 is Sustain and over the course of three days high profile speakers including Ruedi Baur, Elliot Jay Stocks, Kirsten Dietz, Jan Teuen, Matthew Butterick, Jessica Hische, Andreas Uebele, and many more, will take to the stage to discuss sustainability, design, typography, education and designing for the future.
The fabulous Nina Stössinger, designer of FF Ernestine will be speaking on The Importance of being Ernestine, an account of her journey into the jungle of typeface design and the story of the first public release of her font family FF Ernestine. Also representing FontFont, our very own Head of our Type Department, Andreas Frohloff. He will be running his much appreciated workshop on Calligraphy.

Last year Onur Yazıcıgil and Alessandro Segalini set up and organized ISType (Istanbul Type Seminars), to encourage and develop typographic literacy in Turkey. Their inaugural event was held in September 2011 and was a fantastic success, combining workshops with a series of lectures and creating a space where inspiration and ideas are exchanged and developed. As always, Europe’s biggest design conference was awaited with much eager anticipation. As always, it was a tremendous success. And, as always, the visual style of the conference was carefully scrutinized by the critical eyes of the attending designers.
Traditionally, the conference’s theme motto changes every year and is interpreted by Berlin design agency studio adhoc. This year’s motif was “Shift”. To express this concept, Magnus Hengge and his team fittingly chose FF Scala, a FontFont classic, and paired it up with FF Basic Gothic, a brand new FontFont. While FF Scala has proven its flexibility and versatility for the last 20 years, FF Basic Gothic has yet to be put to the test at all. So it was all the more delightful that they both met the challenge head-on and mastered it with flying colors.read more
