2012 was a year of new faces and getting back to our experimental roots. We welcomed new members to the FontFont family, celebrated the tenth and twentieth anniversaries of some
of our team
and released the largest number of new designs, extensions and updates. The year started off with a real bang, when we won the
iF Communication Design Award in gold
website. Hot on the heels of this accolade, ff Mister K Informal was awarded a
Certificate of Excellence in Typeface Design by the TDC.
Later in the year,
FontFont.com also won the prestigious
German Design Award
became our most awarded FontFont ever. Our first of three FontFont Releases came out in May, when the new designs
ff Tisa Sans
were launched. Two further Releases, ff 60 and ff 61, brought
to our library, as well as a whole host of extensions and updates, like
ff Netto Italics
and a new and improved
ff Meta Correspondence.
throughout the year we travelled the world to ISType İstanbul, TypeCon Milwaukee, TYPO San Francisco, TYPO London, TYPO Berlin, ATypI Hong Kong, Robothon The Hague and to numerous TYPO Days across Germany. On the way we got to interview some fascinating people, including Frank Chimero, Nick Shinn, Mitja Miklavčič and Felix Braden. A number of our customers also shared their work with us, including Populous, Outcast Editions and Treasures from Space.
just before christmas, we launched our inaugural Newsletter and Talking Types — our brand new podcast. We held two TypeBoards and were thrilled to receive a record number of submissions and in December we accepted five brand new families. It was also the year of the update, from our galleries of FontFonts in-use through to the random function — we made numerous changes and improvements to our website.
phew … There’s so much that happened that we wanted to share it all with you. So grab coffee, settle down and have a click through our highlights of 2012.
